Books

A list of books I've read, with some short reviews. Non-exhaustive and infrequently updated

  • American Spy

What if you took the guts of a spy thriller and made it a tale about colonialism, the black experience in American civil service, and imperialism? the answer: a novel I enjoyed!

  • Stranger in the Shogun's City

Amy Stanley’s the Stranger in the Shogun’s City was perhaps the best “read it on a lark” and was totally ingrossed by it book of the year for me. Stanley paints a portrait of Edo before the Meiji Restoration by recounting the live of a countryside daughter of a priest who feels to Edo. Impressive work!
